Welcome to HARM!

The Journal of Hostility, Anger, Repression and Malice is the peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary, open access publication of the Hans Kilian and Lotte Köhler Center (KKC) for Cultural Psychology and Historical Anthropology at the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany.

HARM is both a concept and a journal. The editorial team welcomes contributions that deal with how harm is inflicted, suffered, witnessed, documented, commented upon, and analysed. Issues we are interested in include how people experience natural disasters, wars, accidents, illness, humiliation, and loss; and the patterns as well as the particularities of practices of rape, murder, disenfranchisement, and contempt. In the same vein, we want to explore how these experiences or these actions are represented—in pedagogy, science, art, popular culture or religions.

The journal publishes classic formats, such as double-blind peer-reviewed articles and book reviews, as well as essays and literary formats. HARM also knows no disciplinary boundaries and is open to relevant theoretical and empirical contributions from all scientific fields and the arts, such as history, literature, and religious studies, media studies, biology, neuroscience, psychoanalysis, literature, photography, and film.
